Congratulations! You’ve finally booked your first role on your favorite television show! You show up on time, and you receive a packet of paperwork. You fill out your tax information with ease, and then you come across a document you are supposed to sign. You quickly glance over it – grab your pen and STOP! Don’t sign on the dotted line JUST yet! Especially if you’re unsure of what a non-disclosure agreement is.
What exactly is a non-disclosure agreement?
"According to rocketlawyer.com, a “non-disclosure agreement is a legally enforceable contract that creates a confidential relationship between a person who holds a trade secret and whom the secret will be disclosed.” Rocketlawyer.com
For instance, when working on a film or tv show, you should never share plot twists, storylines, etc. The casting company that has hired you trusts that once you have signed your name on the dotted line, you won’t do such. Doing so can cause you to never work on another film set again.
