There are many ways to market yourself as a screenwriter, but in this blog post, I will only mention what I believe to be the three best ways.
Tip 1: Create a blog
You can create a blog using several different website platforms such as Tumblr, Blogger, or Medium. Creating a blog is a great way to showcase your writing. When you complete your post, you can share a link with those who may be interested in what you’ve written. You can write daily, weekly, or monthly. One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received upon receiving my Creative Writing MFA was to write daily. Writing every day improves your writing, and you will see it change drastically. Lastly, writing every day helps you see your grammar errors.
Tip 2: Search for Screenwriting Competitions and Submit
Every year, there are dozens of screenwriting competitions. Be sure to read 5 of the Best Screenwriting Contests of 2019 and 2020. Even if you don’t win, submitting your screenplay to a competition, is one of the best ways to receive constructive criticism from industry professionals.
Tip 3: Bring your Screenplay to Life!
You’ve written, rewritten, edited, and REedited - along with having someone proofread your work for grammar errors. What do you do once your script is complete? Post casting calls, gather a film crew, find a location, and film your creation. Once all the edits are complete, you can submit your film to festivals or host a viewing party for friends and family.
