Finding the right Acting Coach

Updated: May 2, 2023

Are you looking to further your acting career? If so, consider looking for acting classes!

Why Take Acting Classes?

There are many reasons to take acting classes, but we have compiled a short list of three different reasons you should consider taking acting classes. Acting classes help you:

1. To effectively communicate with people.

2. To hone your reading skills.

3. Boost your self-confidence.

Tips when looking for Acting Classes

1. Ask those you may know in the acting community what acting classes they are taking.

2. Research classes, search the instructor, the cost, etc.

3. Attend the acting class. Sometimes, you can audit classes free of charge to find out if it's a good fit.

Once you are in the acting class, pay attention to the acting coach. This may be the acting coach you consider studying under, and will eventually spend a lot of your hard-earned money investing into taking months of acting classes.

Things to Take Notice Of

1. Do you understand the coaches’ teaching?

2. If you’re a beginner actor, is the coach speaking your language, or are they teaching an advanced technique?

3. Do you mesh with the acting coach?

What To Do Once You Find a Class?

Once you find an acting class that fits your needs, please note that you do not have to study under the same acting coach for the life of your career. You can also take multiple acting classes to learn different techniques. There are many acting coaches that teach advanced techniques but can assist with taking your acting career to the next level.

Whichever coach you decide to study under, be sure you’re being taught in the correct way. If you constantly hear the same information from a particular coach, know you're being taught well!

Every coach will specialize in specific things that may differ from other coaches. One coach could specialize in audition techniques, while others might teach you how to work the camera, where you should look, or how to set up your lighting for auditions. Some coaches may teach you how to break down scripts, whereas others may be able to help you to get in touch with emotions for a scene. Either way, you’ll be something

In closing, if you want to enhance your career as an actor, know that the learning never ends!
